Established in 2006, UNICA Research focuses on issues related to research policies, programmes and funding, as well as on the development of the European Research Area (ERA).

The group started as a platform for the exchange of information, good practices, and solutions to overcome common difficulties resulting from the complex EU research funding rules & schemes (“EU Research Liaison Officers – EURLO”), but it widened its scope over the years to include broader topics related to the European research landscape. UNICA Research aims now at offering a think tank for Vice-Rectors Research and EU Research Liaison Officers to discuss European research and innovation policy initiatives and strategies. It also acts as a forum for voicing joint recommendations on how to improve the European research policies and funding programmes.
