Largest consultation on the past, present and future of EU’s Research & Innovation Framework programmes 2014-2027

Looking into the impact and advancement of EU Programmes, the European Commision held two public consultations focusing on the past, present and future of the EU’s Horizon – Research and Innovation (R&I) Programmes 2014-2027.
Starting in December 2022 and lasting till February 2023, Higher Education institutions and other stakeholders active in the field of R&I, had the opportunity to provide their views regarding the overall performance of the Horizon 2020 programme as well as the ongoing Horizon Europe programme. The latter also included space for input covering the strategic orientations of the Horizon Europe Strategic Plan 2025-2027.
According to the EC, the public consultation offered the opportunity to:
- Point out the achievements and shortcomings of the previous EU research and innovation programme Horizon 2020, its relevance and the procedures associated with the application process and funding management;
- Express views on Horizon Europe’s design and implementation up until now;
- Identify future priorities for Horizon Europe’s Strategic Plan 2025-2027, providing inputs on emerging research and innovation needs, on synergies across EU programmes, etc.
