Conference “Unity in diversity: languages for mobility, jobs and active citizenship”, Vilnius, 25-26 September 2013

The Conference “Unity in diversity: languages for mobility, jobs and active citizenship”, held under the auspices of the Lithuanian Presidency of the Council of the European Union and the patronage of European Commissioner Androulla Vassiliou, will take place on 25-26 September 2013 in Vilnius.

The European Commission’s Rethinking Education strategy launched in November last year emphasises the importance of language competences for learning mobility and professional mobility. Moreover, the promotion of language learning and linguistic diversity is one of the over-arching objectives of the new programme for education, training, youth and sport, Erasmus+.

Participation in the conference will be by invitation only. If you would like to participate, please send an e-mail at your earliest convenience to EAC-A3-MEETINGS-ORGANISATION@ec.europa.eu indicating that you would like to be included on the list of invitees. Requests will be treated on a first come/first served basis. If your demand can be accommodated, you will receive an official invitation from the contractorTeamwork, on behalf of the organisers.

The conference will address the following main themes:

• Language learning for mobility and work

• Translating and interpreting for active citizenship

• Languages in the digital domain

The plenary sessions will be complemented by dedicated workshops guided by moderators. This structure will allow in-depth, interactive discussions focussed on the exchange of best practice, identification of requirements and networking beyond the participants' specific fields of competence.

Further details on the programme will be available on the conference website which will open soon. If you would like to receive more information please write to EAC-A3-MEETINGS-ORGANISATION@ec.europa.eu
